After the Green Archers lauched a failed bid in the UAAP, the team will once again point its arrows against NCAA’s top four, University of Perpetual Help System Dalta (UPHSD) Altas, tomorrow in this season’s Philippine Collegiate Champions League at Tanauan, Batangas.
The players have high hopes and expectations after silencing critics in their past season performance in the UAAP with a 10-6 slate to finish their run.
The UPHSD Altas placed fourth in NCAA season 88 and has geared for a comeback championship run as the team came close to defeating current NCAA champion, San Beda Red Lions. The team ended the season with a 10-8 record.
Old score to settle
The Green Archers will once again climb the ladder to gain retribution against the UAAP champion, Ateneo Blue Eagles, which defeated the Archers in their semifinal encounter last September 29.
The Taft-based ballers’ arsenal, however, will be missing some of its guns as Team Captain LA Revilla and small forward Luigi De la Paz will not be playing as both are due for medical operations.
Stacking the numbers
La Salle is expected to encounter difficulty tomorrow as the NCAA’s top four, UPSHD Altas, boasts incredible numbers and statistics with Jetterson Vidal leading the charge. Vidal has an average of 17 points per game, while the team’s six foot center, Adefemi Babayemi, boasts six rebounds per game.
Along with the numbers comes Altas six-foot guard Earl Thompson who averages 11 points and four assists per game to support the backbone of Perps.
Shooting guard, Nosa Omorogbe, who has average of 10 points per game is expected to play a big role in the game tomorrow.
The Archers will need to tighten defense to limit the Las Piñas-based squad’s output.
La Salle, however, has a strong defense and is known to have the best rebound statistics in the UAAP. The Archers may just have an upper hand against the Altas so long as the Taft-based squad remains consistent in all quarters of the matchup.
Firing the arrows
With two Archers living out their playing years and two other players staying behind due to medical operations, the Green Archers will rally behind season 75 Rookie of the Year Jeron Teng, Norbert Torres and Almond Vosotros.
La Salle held the crown in the 2008 PCCL.
