Taft chase between DLSU security and outsider settled peacefully

A startling chase broke the usual bustle of Taft Avenue around 4:55 pm today, as police officers and DLSU security personnel chased after a young man down the street.

The man, who is an unnamed graduate from University of the Philippines (UP), was denied entry at Henry Sy Gate for having an outdated campus pass. According to Security and Safety Office (SSO) officer Allan Copones, the man initially resisted upon being denied entry, which lent to a misunderstanding between him and the security guards. This resulted in an escalation of the situation, which quickly turned into a chase.

The security personnel successfully caught the man and brought him to the SSO for further questioning.

Apparently, the man failed to return his campus pass when he initially borrowed one last December 4, in order to conduct appropriate transactions in Br. Andrew Gonzales Hall. The student was applying for a graduate program in DLSU.

Upon concluding the session, Copones furthers that the matter between the man and the security office has been settled. The chase was resolved peacefully with a clarification of the misunderstandings. The man got off with a stern warning to not cause disturbances within the University premises.

According to unofficial sources, a member of the DLSU community has complained against him for disturbing the peace. The man was allegedly waiting outside the classroom of the complainant and followed the complainant,  disturbing the peace thereafter.

The man, accused, claims to be acquainted with the complainant inside the University, and wishes to clear up what could possibly be a huge misunderstanding. Copones believes that there may be a personal issue between the man and the complainant.

He then cooperated with the SSO in writing a letter of apology and clarification to Security Director Dionisio Escarez, with a copy sent to Associate Vice Chancellor for Campus Service Jay Calleja, though still declining to make a public statement.

The fact that you haven’t mentioned his name but of all things, the school he came from, too much politics in this article

There’s politics in everything. Why are you still surprised? Still, revealing the name in an article can be grounds for complaints in the future. Standard protocol in article writing; if the name has nothing to contribute to the situation at hand, it isn’t mentioned.

Read the newspaper, the subject is always associated with an institution or personal position wherein the reported situation is also closely associated to. In this case, as it happened within a university setting, the association used for the purpose of reference will also be a university affiliation. Nevertheless, we believe in the political mentality towards university/school affiliations to associate an ulterior motive.
