UAAP: Lady Woodpushers remain undefeated

KBP_4036

It has been smooth sailing so far for the DLSU Lady Woodpushers as it seems no one can stop them on their running tear, sweeping their weekend assignments against UP and UST respectively. The DLSU Green Woodpushers, on the other hand, have been on and off with their performances splitting their weekend games against UE and FEU.

Led by team captain Jodi Fronda, the Lady Woodpushers continued to dominate the competition with a 2.5 – 1.5 win against UP last Saturday, February 1, and a 3.5 – 0.5 drubbing of UST last Sunday, February 2. The Lady Woopushers haven’t encountered any major setbacks so far as last week was composed of victories over UE (3.5 – 0.5) and ADMU (3.5 – 0.5).

Sa womens’ maganda kasi na namamaintan namin yung lamang namin, tsaka di lang namamaintain, napapalaki pa namin yung lamang namin (it’s nice that we get to maintain our lead, but we also get to extend it as well),” the proud team captain says, adding that the Green Woodpushers have had a decent showing themselves compared to that of last season.

The Green Woodpushers on the other hand, split their weekend assignments with a 2.5 – 1.5 win over UE and a 2.5 – 1.5 setback against FEU. It was the same result as that of last week as they suffered a 2.5 – 1.5 loss against Adamson and a 2.5 – 1.5 victory over NU.

Every point counts,” says head coach Randy Segarra, adding that he wants both the Green Woodpushers and Lady Woodpushers to bring up their intensity heading into the second round, and eventually, the crucial stages of the tournament.

“We’ll meet them again sa second round so at least consistent lang yung performance namin,” he emphasized.

Among other things, practice has been key for the current standings of both teams and even with their recent performance in last year’s Unigames, Coach Randy believes that all the work put in has prepared his players for the grind that is the UAAP tournament.

“Ang practice naman talaga namin is more of yun nga yung mga problem solving at siyempre marami kaming games,” he says with regards to their practice strategies.  “Yun naman talaga yung nagbibigay ng maturity experience sa mga players namin.”

Both the Green Woodpushers and the Lady Woodpushers will play through the month of February all the way until February 23, which will be the last day of the tournament. Catch them as they continue to outwit the competition at the second floor of the Enrique Razon Sports Complex on Saturdays and Sundays.

Gusto ko mamaintain yung championship,” Fronda confidently says, adding that the key to their championship success, just like in any other sport, would be the trust they have in each other.
