Newest Manila directive could lessen problems on security and safety around DLSU

The University’s Security and Safety Office (SSO) confirmed that they haven’t received a copy or any directive regarding the City of Manila’s prohibition of three-wheeled vehicles on 46 city roads.

SSO Director Dionisio Escarez shared that they have been always on the lookout for pedicab and tricyle drivers who constantly put Lasallians’ safety at risk, even before the order came out yesterday.

“Even before, when ‘kuligligs’ were banned during former Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim’s term, efforts to comply with the ordinance were put in place by the SSO,” he said in Filipino. Escarez shared that they keenly apprehend drivers who counterflow.

Aside from these, he mentioned that the University’s role in this issue is to remind the students to be vigilant of their environment and safety at all times. “We will prioritize student safety over the rudimentaries of the actual directive on the prohibition of these vehicles,” Escarez quipped.

The responsibility of implementing the local government directive resides with the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau according the the SSO Director. The police force stationed on Taft Avenue or Vito Cruz could also enforce the new rule.

Escarez also mentioned that as soon as they receive a copy of Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada’s newest directive, SSO will immediately organize a scheme to comply.
