The Industrial Management Engineering Society (IMES) is one of the leading independent professional organizations for Industrial Engineers. Driven by our goal to be one of the most influential student-led organizations, we aim to give our members the opportunities and avenues to help them grow both professionally and holistically with us.
With the Pride Month this June 2022, IMES would like to take part in the celebration of raising awareness in finding one’s own identity while breaking through the barriers of genderphobia specifically in the professional STEM field. Thus, IMES proudly presents its first ever online celebration of Pride Month, entitled: IEdentity: Pride Month.
Happening this June 11, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM via Zoom, IEdentity aims to raise awareness regarding the importance of having Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Expression (SOGIE) and to educate others regarding the presence of genderphobia in the workplace. With the theme of “Proud and Professional,” this event hopes to make people be aware that one’s work performance and opportunities should not be affected by their truest identities. While this event aims to break through the barriers in the STEM field, the event is open to all, both Lasallians and non-Lasallians, binaries and non-binaries.
With these in mind, IMES proudly presents its lineup of speakers for IEdentity: Pride Month! Our first speaker is Mr. Rene Jr. Principe, a proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community and a Junior Faculty Instructor III at the National Institute of Physics. He will be sharing his experiences and his life story on how he grew up in poverty and how he was able to climb his way to success through his hard work while being able to express his truest self to the world. Our second speaker is Ms. Kristina Boado, a proud lesbian Juris Doctor student at the University of the Philippines College of Law and the Co-Founder of the Queer Safe Spaces Philippines. She will talk about her experiences in the workplace and how she was able to break through the barriers in the professional world. Lastly, our third speaker is Mr. Gerald Chu, a proud bisexual male student of Veterinary Medicine at the University of the Philippines Los Baños and a TikTok influencer. He will talk about his journey on how he found his truest self and how he came to be proud of his identity while being highly professional in his field.
Moreover, a special message will be given by one of the main proponents of the SOGIE bill and also one of the Philippine Senators, Senator Risa Hontiveros. Truly, her advocacies are trailblazers to how society should celebrate Pride Month—a celebration of each and every single one of us.
