La Salle Computer Society held Hackercup 2022 last August 12 to 13, 2022 at Zoom and streamed on DLSU Hackercup Facebook Page. The first day held the competition and three workshops where speakers discussed Design Thinking with Mr. Mark Yao, Microsoft Sustainability with Mr. Gerald Carlos and Mr. Sean Calma, and a Figma Workshop with Ms. Joanna Mae Javier.
This followed the competition proper showcasing the creativity and problem solving skills of the participants in ideating technological solutions towards problems gravitating around the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The participants had solutions focusing on the chosen three SDGs: good health and well-being, quality education, and industry, innovation, and infrastructure.
“The 2022 Hackercup Competition springboards from the theme ‘Sustainable Innovation with Human Ingenuity for a better world’. It aims at bringing together the essence of students’ creativity and the power of technology, given that our SDGs are relevant to the social issues we are facing now,” said Krischelle Cadao, Project Head of Hackercup 2022.
After idea pitching, the groups have been assigned to their respective mentors to process their prototyping ideas in preparation for their presentation. Some of the participants’ ideas included road safety applications, centralized patient history app, investors for startup companies marketplace, vaccine tracker, interactive map for road safety, college application preparation app, and many more.
The top three winners were determined by their scores in the following areas: 40 percent presentation, business plan and its defense, and 60 percent for testing the working prototype. Among the judges for the competition’s finals were Kaya Founder’s Chief Technology Officer Mark Yao, Accenture’s Tech Architect Associate Manager Aika Basinillo and Application Developer Associate Amiel Fernando, Tech Associate of Breeder DAO Bryan Mendoza, Assistant Professional Lecturer Arturo Caronongan and Faculty member of Department of Software Technology Edward Tighe of De La Salle University.
GEUSELF, Wonder Pets, and Eagles n Archers won as the top three winners of the competition receiving a cash prize pool of Php 42,000. LOCAD also awarded GEUSELF GANG with the ‘E-commerce logistics engineer’ as they’ve provided solutions for the e-commerce, supply chain, and logistics industry. While BreederDAO was awarded The Initiative with the ‘Different Breed’ in recognition for a project leaning towards technical prowess–pushing the boundaries of technology.
“I’ve seen what true ingenuity and strong collaboration is. This shows that if we all strive towards a common goal we can make the world a greener, safer, and better place to live,” said Ayiana Romero, Project Head of Hackercup 2022.
