Some origin stories aren’t as poetic as the narrative of the Holy Bible’s Genesis, or as abrupt and mystifying as the beginning of Kafka’s Metamorphosis. Some origin stories, when stripped of metaphors and other literary techniques, become stories of human passion. As much as we’re often overwhelmed in our academic affairs on campus, some Lasallians […]
Six years ago, Glee was born and I was hooked. The catchy marketing campaign, as well as its out-of-the-box premise, had me, as well as millions of others, hook, line, and sinker. However, somewhere along the way, Glee became ‘taboo’. From critically acclaimed, zeitgeist-capturing musical comedy, it became a guilty pleasure only few ever admitted […]
True to Lasallian culture, it’s a widely known rite of passage to go through the bottom of the food chain once thrown into the shark-infested pool that is college. And you, dear freshmen, are swimming as baby guppies. Perhaps the most evident manifestation of this is the catch-all response of “Frosh may kasalanan!” to everything […]
The Manila International Book Fair (MIBF), now on its 36th edition, has become somewhat of a pilgrimage for Filipino lit lovers and bookworms. Known for its bargain prices, with discount rates as high as 90% off, and sightings of local and international authors, the MIBF has become an annual staple for those looking to satiate […]
In October of 2014, the news of the slaying of Jennifer Laude caused outrage throughout the whole country, with major LGBT orgs condemning the brutal murder of the transgender Pinay. You’ve passed all the paperwork you spent hours and hours on. You’ve bid farewell to the last professor you had […]
Poignant romantic comedies always seem to be a fluke these days. Tropes — like the guy who can’t commit or the woman with the klutzy but sunny disposition — have been played on for so long that they leave a bad taste in the mouth. It’s hard to stay hopeful for a good romantic comedy […]

During my current two-year foray into the Master of Science in Applied Economics (BSMSECO) ladderized program here in DLSU, I have gained firsthand experience in the pleasures and pitfalls of pursuing graduate studies. While this does not make me a guru in the art of surviving graduate school, it does not stop hopeful and insatiably curious […]
