Gordon tops other bets in DLSU Mock Senatorial Election

Following the DLSU Presidential Mock Election, Boto Lasalyano, Sulong Pilipino (BLSP) this time conducted a Mock Senatorial Election through an online survey last April 26, naming former senator Richard Gordon (83.7 percent) as the top senatorial bet of Lasallians. The results of the survey were released earlier this evening, eight days prior to election day.

Trailing behind Gordon is former justice secretary Leila de Lima with 76.3 percent, succeeded by former Akbayan party-list representative Risa Hontiveros with 72.5 percent. Garnering fourth and fifth places, respectively, are former senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan with 60.5 percent and Senate President Franklin Drilon with 59.0 percent. Former senator Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri closely trails at 58.6 percent, followed by former senator Panfilo Lacson with 57.2 percent.

Coming at eight place is Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto at 55.3 percent and incumbent senator Sergio Osmeña III with 51.2 percent of votes. The 10th and 11th spots, respectively, were secured by Valenzuela City representative Sherwin “Win” Gatchalian with 47.9 percent and Bayan Muna party-list representative Neri Colmenares with 41.9 percent. Lastly, incumbent senator Teofisto “TG” Guingona places 12th at 36.6 percent.

Similar to the previous mock elections, the poll was open to all members of the Lasallian community. With the last mock poll garnering 3,696 votes, the number of respondents significantly dropped to 797, consisting of 787 student respondents and 10 faculty and staff respondents. At a 95 percent confidence level, the margin of error is at an estimated 3.45 percent.

In a similar survey conducted by Ang Pahayagang Plaridel (APP) last March, 1000 respondents also chose Gordon as their top senatorial bet with 18 percent. Hontiveros and De Lima, on the other hand, both placed second at 14 percent, followed by Gatchalian (11 percent) and Colmenares (7 percent). Coming after was senatorial aspirant Manny Pacquiao with 7 percent.

Re-electionists Recto (6 percent) and Drilon (5 percent) both placed before Lacson (5 percent). Meanwhile, incumbent senator Vicente Sotto III (5 percent), and senatorial aspirants Martin Romualdez (4 percent) and Isko Moreno (4 percent) were voted in 10th, 11th, and 12th spots, respectively.

The National and Local Elections will be held on Monday, May 9.
