Who said boy bands are a thing of the past?
Irish pop sensation, Westlife, included Manila in their Gravity Tour last Sept. 29, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Four out of the five original members of the boy band were able to capture the crowd’s hearts, mostly women, who were once teenagers that avidly followed the group when it started during the late 90s.
Shane, Mark, Kian and Nicky sang Westlife classics such as “When You’re Looking Like That”, “World of Our Own”, “My Love”, “Uptown Girl” and “Flying Without Wings”. Songs from their Gravity album were also performed and an unexpected mash up of Lady Gaga, Coldplay and Black Eyed Peas hits highlighted the boy band’s comeback.
Although the group’s choice of wardrobe was a bit tacky (they donned Mickey Mouse shirts in one of their sets), and the lead singers were unable to hit their notes during the first few songs, Westlife was able to prove that they are still a force to be reckoned with in the global music scene.
Gravity Tour 2011 marked Westlife’s fourth visit in Manila. It was a sold out concert everyone will remember.
