LDSC – Street sets arrows to Vegas

“Why do you dance?”

LSDC – Street has only one general answer. To inspire.

Approximately 1,066 avid spectators were mesmerized last July 13 as they witnessed a glimpse of the 11th World Hip Hop Dance Championships, as Philippine representative La Salle Dance Company (LSDC) – Street Megacrew took the Teresa Yuchengco Auditorium by storm in its show named “Hail! Hail! Hail!”.

“Hail! Hail! Hail!” is a fundraising concert, featuring the whole LSDC – Street and its alumni counterpart Impulse, which aimed to raise money for the crew’s expenses on their Las Vegas trip.

Two guest crews were invited to give the show a more glaring finish, namely the Colegio San Augustin (CSA) Dance Crew and the Skittlez Dance Crew.

Best concert yet

Prior to the 7pm show, the multi-titled LSDC – Street was fresh from its performance in Arts in Action, which started two hours earlier.

Coach Kevin Intal was all praises for his crew, sharing, “We did pretty well. There were a few details that needed to be fixed. As a whole, it’s okay naman. Based on the reactions from the audience, what we heard from them, we somehow had our best concert so far.”

Prior to the July 13 public show inside DLSU, they saw action at St. Bridget College  last July 7.

Newbies’ impressive debut

Rejean Tee, (I, CHE), described her concert debut as something worth remembering. She was inspired by her seniors to work harder as a dancer.

“Super happy because I still can’t believe that I’m already part of Street, and our practices paid off. I’ve been enjoying Street so far. They [the seniors] have taught me a lot. This is family for me.”

Despite the rigorous rehearsals for the show, new members saw it coming —- the time and effort each and every member had spent for the show.

The newbies’ debut was so impressive that their head coach was caught off guard by their concert performance.

“The new members are actually quite good, because so far, that was their best run a while ago, even better than their practices and rehearsals. I believe that they have the potentials.”

Las Vegas awaits

Las Vegas, Nevada will play host to the prestigious worldwide hip hop dance competition, which boasts 2,500 of the best hip hop dancers around the globe, on August 1-5.

Crews from more than 35 nations, the Philippines included, will compete to snare the most coveted world title and bragging rights.

LDSC-Street Megacrew, with half of its 24 dancers Lasallian alumni, will partake in the MegaCrew division (15 to 40 dancers) at Vegas.

The long-tenured coach Intal is optimistic that his crew will give the other dance crews a run for their money, through practice, hard work and faith.

“As of yesterday [July 13], there were 26 teams competing, including us. We’re not actually expecting anything from the results yet because we don’t know what will happen. But, we’ll practice harder to represent the country and the school.”

Thank you, The Lasallian!!! 🙂

Erratum: We had our previous fundraising concert at St. Bridget College and not San Beda, Batangas City 🙂
