With the most crucial part of UAAP Season 76 at hand, Jason Perkins is ready to pour it all out for that elusive championship. Amidst the recently concluded finals week and the beginning of a new term, he’s found new ways to help him gear up for the second round games–ways that have seemed to help him and his team emerge as one of the title contenders this season. Perkins currently averages 13.7 points and a team-high 9.7 rebounds per game for the Green Archers. Aside from basketball, he’s also trying his best to follow the American football season in his spare time since he used to play the sport back in Minnesota.

Finals are over and I felt okay about it, but I could’ve done a little better since I didn’t study as much as I should have, but I did alright. I passed all my classes though one class was particularly hard but thankfully I got over the hump and passed it.

I used to play American football back home, and I’m as much of an American football fan as I am a basketball fan. I love football but it’s hard to follow the games with the different time zones. I used to play tight end and in the NFL, I root for the Minnesota Vikings and the Baltimore Ravens.

Off the court, I’m enjoying college pretty much. During the season, I’m strictly focused on basketball. After the season, it would be nice to be free again, like hanging out with my teammates, friends, and spending a lot of my time at Jollibee with my friend, the Aloha Burger.  Right now, I also really want to watch the Cheerdance competition in MoA Arena on Sunday.

The second round of the UAAP has been a lot more fun compared to the first since we’re getting it done in crunch time and our record’s a lot better. I didn’t realize how important every game was but now I see how important they are. It’s a lot more fun since we’re playing as a team and we’re a lot more organized, and yeah that’s probably it. It’s cool that coach Juno [Sauler] trusts me to be there at the end of the game but even if he doesn’t put me in, I’d still be happy. It’s awesome to see everyone stepping up and working hard, guys like LA [Revilla], Kib [Montalbo], AVO [Arnold van Opstal], Jeron [Teng], and pretty much everyone.

I’ve changed things up a little bit actually. In the second round, I’ve been eating a Belgian Waffle before every game. I listen to the national anthem in my phone sometimes and I switched my music up. I’m listening to Kendrick Lamar now and also when I’m in the game, I try to remind myself of why I’m out there. My father passed away recently so now his picture’s on my phone so before I go out and play, I take a look at him.

We had practice after our last game against NU and coach Juno already has a plan for UST, and we’re just going to follow it and practice every detail. Right now, it’s all about going for the championship, I really feel confident going forward. I’m dedicating this one to my dad, it’s really important to me, like when I look at his picture and I go on the court, I feel like I’m really ready to go out on the court to play.

I’d treat you unlimited Aloha Burger when we get that championship! Just don’t go Buenafe on that shit. Lol! You’re so funny and very down to earth, Jason! Continue doing that. Animo Jperk!
